The surroundings

Apartment Cosimato is situated in strategic point of district Trastevere, in the famous square of S.Cosimato where you can enjoy the fresh fruits and vegetables from the roman market, take some cappuccino in the one from many bars around on the square, taste the roman gelato and just have some relaxing “aperitivo” near the square. It is the only piazza of Trastevere that is more lively by day than by night and much frequented by the Romans. During summer, the square proposes an open air cinema.

Directly from the square, you can easily arrive to the main entrance of the Janiculum Hill, also known as “eighth hill”. Here it is possible to enjoy one of the most suggestive view on the historical centre of Rome. On top of the hill the imposing equestrian statue of Garibaldi, that looks towards San Pietro with a provocative demeanor, commemorate the ferocious clashes of 1849 between the French troops that defended the Pope and the volunteers of the Roman Republic, led by Garibaldi and Mazzini. Just before arriving to Porta di San Pancrazio, there it is one of the symbols of the city, the Fontana dell’Acqua Paola (Fontanone), represented in various films like Three coins in the fountain (1954), Trastevere (1971) and La grande bellezza (2013).

You could end your tour, coming back to Via di San Francesco a Ripa, strolling among small and second hand clothing shops. You are just a few steps by feet from Largo di Torre Argentina, Campo de’ Fiori, Piazza Farnese, Piazza Navona, Fontana di Trevi, Pantheon, Piazza di Spagna e Piazza del Popolo. Besides it is 700m distant from Testaccio, typical roman district full of bars which is considered the hub of the roman “dolce vita”.

Where to eat

A wonderful smell inebriate you from the street: it is the smell of the brioches, the cakes and the bread of Giuseppe Solfrizzi who has opened “Le Levain”, bakery-boulangerie in Trastevere. The monoportion cakes are excellent as well as the sandwiches, the yeast products, the quiches for lunch and the macarons. If you are still in the mood for something sweet, you can stop at the ice shop “Fatamorgana”. This brand has a lot of stores all over the city and they all use local raw materials and craftsmanship. You can choose among many different flavours, from the most traditional ones to the refreshing original combinations. Very close to the square, you will find Pizzeria take away “I Supplì”, a unique place to eat tasty slices of pizza, just baked, and one of the best supplì in Rome, a tipical roman recipe consisting of a fried ball of rice and ragu sauce.
