The surroundings

Peretti is located near the beautiful Piazza de’ Mercanti, a place where still today it is possible to breathe the ancient history of the city. And also near the Basilica di S.Cecilia and Chiesa di S. Maria dell’Orto, dating back to the 16th century, decorated by the Arciconfraternita and by the 12 Universities of arts and crafts. Greengrocers, millers, delicatessen owners and groups of artisans   adorned the inside of the church with motifs related to their crafts. The position is great, at the limits of Trastevere, just a few steps from Bocca della Verità, Isola Tiberina, Circo Massimo, Rione Ripa, Ghetto, from the scented Giardino degli Aranci on the Aventine Hill and from the Roseto Comunale which contains more than 1200 different species of roses. Besides it is 500 meters distant from Testaccio, a typical roman district full of bars which is considered the hub of the roman “dolce vita”. On Sundays the appointment with the historical Porta Portese is not to be missed, the largest and most popular market in town. You can look around among the second hand stands and the bric-a-bracs in a very unique atmosphere. Here among secondhand and antique dealer, shoes and clothes stands it is still possible to get a bargain.

Where to eat

While enjoying a walk along Lungotevere, in front of the Isola Tiberina, try the taste of the real Rome. Walk all the way to the isle and stop at “Tiberino”, café and ice shop, where you can have a typical Italian breakfast, an handmade ice cream cone or an aperitivo with a fresh cocktail while cherishing the view of the little piazza in front of you. If you want you can stop and have dinner there at the excellent bistro or go somewhere else. Going back to the other side of the river you will get to “Le Mani in pasta”, a restaurant specialised in serving fresh fish dishes. Finally, going to the real heart of Trastevere, you will find “La Trattoria de Gli Amici”, where you can taste the real roman cuisine in a place with a special mood.
