Sales is located behind Lungotevere Farnesina. It is very close to the Botanical Garden of Rome, located at the slopes of the Janiculum Hill, in the ancient park Villa Corsini which used to be Christina of Sweden’s residence. At present the Botanical Garden contains 3000 plant species and it also hosts exhibitions, courses, conferences, symposiums and highly specialized ecological researches about the urban environment.
In via della Lungara it is possible to visit Villa Farnesina, one of the most sophisticated and harmonious building of the Italian Renaissance, a great work in which the architectural project and the pictorical decoration merge in a unique, incredible synthesis created by the architect Baldassarre Peruzzi. The villa is decorated with frescos inspired by classical myths painted by great masters like Raffaello. The villa is today the seat of the Accademia dei Lincei.
It is easy to reach all the monuments and attractions of the city by feet as well as by bus like Piazza Navona, Piazza del Campidoglio, the Colosseum, Arch of Constantine, the Imperial Fora and Piazza Venezia. Shopping lovers can continue on via del Corso and reach via dei Condotti, Piazza di Spagna and via del Babuino, where the most sophisticated boutiques of the city are.
Where to eat
A quick but worthy break at lunch is needed between one visit and another: we suggest you to stop at “Pianostrada”, a small cooking laboratory with regional products, cheese, cured meats, olive oil, beer and homemade bread. Going on with the strolling, in front of a drab door except for two lanterns, you read “Ma che siete venuti a fa?” Here it is the right place to taste beer from all over the world served by the many draft beers on the counter. The names of English, Belgian, German, Swedish, American beers alternate on the board hung on the wall.
Around Rome you cannot miss the opportunity to taste the cuisine of the city. The right place is “La Trattoria de Gli Amici”, open for lunch and dinner with a small outdoor area on Piazza Sant’Egidio. If you want you can end your night just crossing the street, where “Bir & Fud” is waiting for you. Always crowded, when entering you will be surprised by the number of draft beers, but you won’t be less satisfied when you taste the pizza, made with certified quality products, or the food supervised by the chef Cristina Bowerman.
